01

Start with the household, then the ecosystem

The phones, speakers and smart devices you already use are a sensible starting point. List the exact products and the everyday actions you want: a light at dusk, a simple doorbell alert or an easier temperature adjustment. Maz can discuss the technology alongside placement, power and the physical work in your Richmond-area home.

02

Apple Home, HomeKit and Matter

Apple Home brings compatible accessories into the Home app. HomeKit and Matter describe supported ways accessories can work with that ecosystem; they are not guarantees that every product or feature will fit. Check the exact accessory, current software and hub requirements. Include HomePod, Apple TV and any planned HomeView purchase in your list so the whole arrangement can be considered.

03

Google Home and Nest

Google Home supports Google and Nest products, compatible partner devices and supported Matter accessories. Check the precise device type, desired features and whether the setup needs a compatible hub or Thread connection. A product that appears in one manufacturer’s app may need a separate connection to work the way you expect in Google Home.

04

Amazon Alexa and Echo

Alexa can work with supported Matter devices through compatible Echo equipment; some devices connect through a manufacturer’s Alexa integration. The Echo generation and accessory model matter. List the voice commands and routines you want and check any manufacturer app, account or subscription requirements before you buy.

05

Treat Matter as a compatibility check, not a blanket promise

Matter helps supported devices communicate across ecosystems. Check the exact product category, supported controls and the connection it uses, such as Wi-Fi or Thread. Shared use across platforms may require additional pairing or equipment. Keep the physical switch and other everyday controls part of the plan so everyone in the household can use the result.

06

Bring the plan to Maz

Send the product links, a photo of the space, your ZIP code and the platform you use today. Mention any devices that do not respond reliably. Keep account ownership with you and enter passwords yourself during an agreed setup. Scope and compatibility are confirmed for the specific products; platform names here identify options to discuss, not manufacturer certification or endorsement.

Bring these to the conversation

  • What is the device make and model?
  • Which phone or smart-home platform do you use?
  • Is this a new setup or a problem with an existing device?
Discuss this with Maz
