The starting point
LED strips can create a continuous line of light; puck lights create separate pools. The better fit depends on your cabinet layout, countertop reflections and the result you want.
Decide how you use the counter
A work surface used for food preparation may need a different lighting pattern from a display area. Take an evening photo with the existing lights on. Note where your body casts a shadow and where you would like a more even view of the surface.
Compare the appearance of the light
Think about the countertop and backsplash as well as the fixture. Reflective finishes can make individual light sources more visible. Diffusers and fixture positioning are worth discussing. FIXABL’s gallery includes strip lighting in angled channels directing light toward the backsplash.
Look at corners and breaks
A long run of cabinets, a corner and a gap above an appliance can each interrupt the layout. Send photos of the cabinet undersides. The plan needs to account for mounting space and connections as well as the appearance when viewed from across the room.
Choose a control you will actually use
A wall control, dimming or compatible smart switching can suit different routines. Share how you use the kitchen in the morning and evening. Ask about compatibility between the light source, power supply and controls before buying separate products.
Bring these to the conversation
- Wide kitchen photo
- Photos under each cabinet run
- Task light, evening light or both
- Existing switches and controls
